Find answers about ordering cremation jewelry, ash kit returns, shipping, how much ash is needed, colors, creation time, and care instructions from Locked In Art.
How much does shipping cost?
Within the USA:
Shipping is free. This includes the shipment of the ash kit (both ways), final delivery, and insurance coverage.
International Shipping:
We currently ship to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, and China.
Shipping costs typically range from $48 – $68 USD, depending on location.
We’ll mail you an ash kit, but return shipping for the kit must be purchased locally through your preferred courier.
Customs fees or import duties may apply upon delivery of your memorial. These costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
If you’re outside of these countries and wish to place an order, please email us for a shipping quote.
How will I get the ashes to you?
We’ll mail your ash kit within two business days of receiving your order.
The kit includes everything you’ll need, including a prepaid return shipping label (for U.S. orders).
International customers will receive the kit but must cover the cost of returning it.
You can also visit our Packaging Information page to see examples of both the ash kit and our finished memorial jewelry boxes.
How much ash is needed?
Only a very small amount — about one teaspoon.
Your kit includes a scoop that measures exactly that.
After your piece is created:
Any unused ash will be returned to you in the same container.
If any of the infused glass rod remains, we’ll shape it into small glass teardrops containing trace ash and return them to you as well.
These teardrops may be placed back into your loved one’s urn.
Will the ashes be visible?
Yes.
You’ll see tiny white flecks suspended within the glass, and in some cases, small air bubbles formed naturally in the process.
Will the colors look exactly like the color chart?
Not exactly. Each piece is one-of-a-kind.
We use the same color palette shown in our chart, but the swirls, depth, and distribution of color will vary from piece to piece.
Borosilicate glass (Pyrex) is known for its subtle indoor hues and brilliant sparkle in sunlight, giving every memorial a personal and dynamic character.
Can you use hair or bone instead of ashes?
Hair can be included only if it’s already been incinerated (turned to ash).
We do not perform incineration ourselves.
If the cremains contain small bone fragments, we can crush and prepare them for inclusion.
However, we cannot use unprocessed bone.
Can I mix ashes from more than one loved one or pet?
Yes.
You may combine ashes for a shared memorial. We’ll send you one vial, and you can place all ashes together.
Please note that they cannot be distinguished separately in the finished piece.
Can you create a memorial without ashes?
Absolutely.
Simply choose your preferred color and any engraving you’d like, and let us know that no ash kit is needed.
Are the ashes secure within the glass?
Yes.
During the glassblowing process, the ashes are fused permanently inside the molten glass — becoming part of the artwork itself.
They are completely sealed and cannot be disturbed by water or wear.
How long does the process take?
Once your kit is returned to us, please allow 4–6 weeks for creation and shipping of your finished memorial.
Each piece is handmade with care and precision.
What kind of glass do you use? Can it break?
All memorials are crafted from borosilicate glass (Pyrex) — a laboratory-grade glass known for exceptional clarity and strength.
Each piece is also annealed in a kiln for added durability.
However, glass is still glass: while strong, it can break or scratch under impact or heavy wear.
Please handle your memorial with care and avoid abrasive contact.
How do I know the memorial contains my loved one’s ashes?
Our process is carefully documented and tracked at every stage —
from receiving your kit to creating and shipping your finished memorial.
We treat each order with the same respect as a loved one entrusted to a crematorium.
This trust is sacred to us, and your memorial is handled with the utmost dignity and attention.
How should I care for my memorial jewelry?
Your order includes a jewelry polishing cloth (for polished metal finishes).
To clean your piece:
Use mild dish soap (like Dawn) and warm water to remove residue.
Do not take your jewelry to a local jeweler for polishing; many are unfamiliar with glass and could etch or damage it permanently.
If your piece needs a deep cleaning, we’re happy to do it free of charge — you just cover the shipping.
Please box your jewelry securely to avoid damage during transit.
Like any jewelry, normal wear may cause light scratches or dings over time, but with care, your memorial can last a lifetime and be passed down for generations.
Can I cancel my order?
Cancellations must be requested within two weeks of purchase.
You will be responsible for any costs incurred up to that point, including materials or work already completed.
